Ice Cream Storytime

I think everyone loves ice cream, especially in July. I think the toddlers enjoyed this fun and active storytime!

Song: Put Your Ice Cream In the Air
I gave the kids cut out ice cream cones.

Put your ice cream in the air, in the air.
Put your ice cream in the air, in the air.
Put your ice cream in the air, and hold it right up there.
Put your ice cream in the air, in the air.

Put your ice cream on your cheek, on your cheek.
Put your ice cream on your cheek, on your cheek.
Put your ice cream on your cheek, leave it there a week.
Put your ice cream on your cheek, on your cheek.

Put your ice cream on your nose, on your nose.
Put your ice cream on your nose, on your nose.
Put your ice cream on your nose, and see if it grows.
Put your ice cream on your nose, on your nose.

Put your ice cream on your ear, on your ear.
Put your ice cream on your ear, on your ear.
Put your ice cream on your ear, and leave it there a year.
Put your ice cream on your ear, on your ear.

Put your ice cream on your finger, on your finger.
Put your ice cream on your finger, on your finger.
Put your ice cream on your finger, leave it there, let it linger.
Put your ice cream on your finger, on your finger.

Based on the song by Woody Guthrie.

Feltboard: Ice Cream Scoops
The kids all received a color ice cream and brought it up when I called their color.

First we need a cone, nice and crunchy.
Then we need some ice cream, sweet and yummy.
Scoop ‘em up, stack ‘em on, up to the sky.
We love ice cream; my, oh my!

First comes vanilla, cold and sweet.
Then comes chocolate, a delicious treat.
Here comes lemon and some lime,
These are the flavors I choose every time.
Here’s some strawberry and cherry too!
A super-duper scooper cone, just for you!

One scoop, two scoops,
Three scoops, four.
We love ice cream Let’s have some more!

Active Song: Twenty Four Scoops of Ice Cream by Brent Holmes

I fell in love with this song. It has skip counting and a fun tune to dance to. We did a freeze dance with DANCE, FREEZE, and MELT.

Closing Song

Craft: Drip Watercolor Snow Cone
The circle is just a coffee filter attached to the background paper with the triangle of sticker paper. The toddlers used droppers to paint the “ice” of the snow cone. Droppers are good for learning early writing skills.

I hope everyone has a sweet time with this ice cream theme!
