Helping Storytime

Helping is an important topic for me. I feel like if we all work together, we make the world a better place. Even little children can help their parents. This week we had fun with this theme.

Opening Song
Wiggle Song
Literacy Activity: Letter D

Sign Language:  Help, I love you

Book: Mrs Mc Nosh Hangs up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks

Feltboard: Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash Feltboard
I don’t usually pay for feltboards, but this one was so good and the items were so specific, it would be hard to duplicate. I handed out one item to each child and retold the story so they could bring them up and place it on the board.

Book: People Who Help in My Neighborhood by Janet Preus

Song: Helping Hands by NuBeat Music
This song is from a Christian album, but I couldn’t find any easy songs for children about this topic. There isn’t any religion in it, it is all about helping. I could only find it here:

When I see someone fall down
I will lift them up.
If they’re lying on the ground
I’ll use my helping hands.

Chorus:
Helping hands helping one another.
I’ll do all I can with my helping hands.
If my Mommy is the cook
And the baby’s crying,
I will read to him a book
And use my helping hands.

Chorus:
Helping hands helping one another.
I’ll do all I can with my helping hands.

If my Daddy is alone
Working in the garden,
I will help him weed and hoe
With my helping hands.

[Repeat second chorus]

Hands should never hurt or fight
Or make someone unhappy.
Do some good and make things right
With your helping hands.

Chorus:
Helping hands helping one another.
Let’s do all we can with our helping hands.

[Repeat]
Oh, let’s do all we can with our helping hands.
Oh, let’s do all we can with our helping hands!

Book: Toad on the Road: Mama and Me by Stephen Shaskan

Closing Song

Craft: Helping Stations
This week instead of a craft we had helping stations:
Food/ Grocery shopping
Delivering the mail
Hanging the wash
Taking care of the baby
Sorting socks feltboard
Coloring sheet of helpers
