Sloth Storytime

My littles weren’t sure what a sloth was at first, but were really interested by the end. I also printed several pictures of sloths and had a map of where they live. I did a quick introduction to sloths before we started storytime.

Book: Sloth Slept On by Frann Preston-Gannon

Some children find a sloth and help him get “home” as he naps.

Action Song: S-L-O-T-H
(Sung to: BINGO)

Give all the kids the letters (SLOTH) and have them put them out in order. Place the letters on the feltboard as well. When the letter is removed from the feltboard, have them put it behind their backs when we clap for that letter.

There was an animal in the forest.
And sloth was his name-o.
S-L-O-T-H
S-L-O-T-H
S-L-O-T-H
And Sloth was his name-o.

There was an animal in the forest.
And sloth was his name-o.
(clap)-L-O-T-H
(clap)-L-O-T-H
(clap)-L-O-T-H
And Sloth was his name-o.

Continue replacing a letter with a clap until..

There was an animal in the forest.
And sloth was his name-o.
(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)-(clap)
And Sloth was his name-o.

Craft: Sloth Pictures
I cut out some brown paper for branches, small sloth pictures, and squares of green tissue paper. The children made trees with the branches, added the sloth, the added as many leaves as they wanted.
