Playing with STEM: Building

Hi Everyone! This program is called Playing with STEM. It is a STEM program for 2-5 year olds. It is primarily play, because at that age, I just want to make science, technology, engineering and math fun!

In this program we learned about building. There were stations all around the room that the kids visit with their parents. Each station had a sign to give some instructions and a fun fact. Here are the building stations:

Wood Bridge
The children used the wood blocks to build a bridge that cars could drive under.

DUPLO LEGOs
The children built with the DUPLOs then made up a story about their creation.

Playdough
The children used playdough to try to make their block towers more steady. The playdough was just the regular cooked flour recipe.

Giant Blocks
This station had the children build with giant blocks. Our blocks are similar to these.

Magnet Building
The children used magnetized toys to build.

Magnet Building
The children used magnetized toys to build.

Cup Building
The children stacked up cups to build tall structures.

Building Egg Towers
The children used plastic eggs to see how tall they could build.

Build a Nest
The children used paper, sticks, feathers and string to build a nest. After building, they tested the nest with plastic birds and plastic eggs.

Lincoln Logs
The beloved toy was used by the children to try to build a cabin.

Tree Building
Children could build a tree with this wood toy.

We had a great turnout for this program!
