Bluey Party

Hi Everyone! We just had to have a Bluey Party! The show is so fun and a lot of libraries had very popular program. We found a lot of resources at the Bluey website. Link is https://www.bluey.tv/

We started with all the families in the front of the room for an introduction, then we moved on to the rest of the activities.

Party Opening
Welcome everyone to Bluey Bonanza.  I am so excited to have so many Bluey fans today.  This is an awesome show, for kids and adults.  Kids learn to express themselves through creativity, along with reinforcing other skills like sharing and patience.  Adults are encouraged to play with their children so they learn those skills in a fun way.  Finally, it shows that kids and parents aren’t perfect and that’s okay!  We are all learning together!
Today we are going to share two books, have a dance competition, then we will have a chance to do the crafts and activities.   Now on with the stories!

Book: Bluey: Bob Bilby

Book: Bluey: The Creek

Activity: Dance Mode Competition
(Turn on the music and kids will dance.  First few rounds people will sit if they can tell they moved.  Later I will call on them if they move. We played the Bluey Soundtrack. We played for about 5 minutes)
Instructions for Dance Mode: I am going to turn on the music and everyone dance.  You can do the floss, the twist, or the robot.  When the music stops, you need to stop dancing.  If you don’t stop in time. Please sit down.  After a few rounds, I will start looking for people who don’t stop, so please follow the rules.

Photo Booth
I didn’t have the budget for a costume, so we went with a photo booth with cardboard stand ups of Bluey and Bingo

Fancy Restaurant
This was our most popular station. The parents sat at the tables while the children took orders and cooked with plastic food.

Bluey Hug Card
There are so many resources on the Bluey website for crafts and activities. I chose this card since my program was near Valentine’s Day. Here is the link to the card: Link

Taxi
One fun episode of Bluey is “Taxi”. We made our taxi with a ottoman, chairs, tubes, paper mirror, paper GPS and noodle steering wheel. This was also very popular!

Keepy Uppy
We had plenty of balloons and fun music for children and parents to play keepy uppy.

Bluey Zoo
In our version of “Zoo”, we used puppets, hula hoops and cage labels to let the children lay out a zoo and sort the animals.

Pizza Girls
Since we were inside, mud and water was not an option for our pizza. Instead we had pizza coloring pages and small boxes that stood in for pizza boxes. We had one car to deliver the pizza to the adults. Next time I want more cars!

Find the Longdogs
We made about 30 longdogs of different colors and hid them around the room. The families could look for them and guess how many

Magic Asparagus
We took a new tack on the magic asparagus. Instead of fake asparagus, we made some out of light up tubes we had around the library. Then we decorated them with vinyl. Several of the families had a fun time with this station.

Charades
We tried to do charades, as found on the Bluey website, but it wasn’t that popular. I just think there were too many other things going on.

Coloring Pages
We had plenty of coloring pages that are found to the Bluey website. Link. Sort by Colouring in the Activity section.

This program was very fun and the children enjoyed all the stations!

  1. How many people did you have attend? We are having a program this summer that will be similar and trying to figure out how to make it work. Did people move freely through centers?

    1. I take sign ups for this program and I limit it to 20 children. All children attend with their caregiver that takes them from station to station, explaining the station to them and interacting with them. They go at their own pace. I am lucky to have two rooms: one has a lot of tables, the other is mostly open space with a few tables around the edges. I put the messy items and the activities for older (4-5 years) in the table room. I put the more active stations in the open room. I think it is very important to have active stations. Sometimes they throw leaves or snowflakes in the air. Sometimes they take birds from one side of the room to the other (migration). Sometimes they drag cars around a track using a magnetic fishing pole. It helps them to focus on stations where they have to sit if they can get out some energy.
