Playing with STEM: Spring

Hi Everyone! This program is called Playing with STEM. It is a STEM program for 2-5 year olds. It is primarily play, because at that age, I just want to make science, technology, engineering and math fun!

In this program we learned about spring. There were stations all around the room that the kids visit with their parents. Each station had a sign to give some instructions and a fun fact. Here are the spring stations:

Be a Bee Scavenger Hunt
The children followed the instructions to get pollen and nectar for the bees.

Flower Math
The children matched the number of petals on the flowers to the flower pot number.

Egg Math
The children matched the top of the egg with dots to the bottom of the egg with the number.

Butterfly Symmetry
Children matched the two parts of the butterfly down the line of symmetry. This is math as well.

Butterflies Up Close
In this activity, the children used magnifying glass to look at enlarged pictures of butterfly’s wings.

Garden Building
The children built flowers using a garden building toy.

Planting Flowers
This is the active activity for this session. The children picked up the flowers and ran down to the other side of the room to plant them.

Garden Sensory Bin
The children could play in the sensory sand with flowers, pots, seeds and garden tools.

Butterfly Life Cycle
The children made a craft with the life cycle of the butterfly.

Flower Color Stickers
The children matched stickers to the color of the posters.

This program was extra fun as the children enjoyed the active stations the most.
