Playing with STEM: Farm

Hi Everyone! This program is called Playing with STEM. It is a STEM program for 2-5 year olds. It is primarily play, because at that age, I just want to make science, technology, engineering and math fun!

In this program we talked about farms and farm animals, all while playing and having fun! There were stations all around the room with instructions that children and caregivers could play together. This months stations were:

Milk The Cow
The children “milked the cow” by squeezing a glove filled with water with a little bit of creamer. I was lucky to have the cow cutouts at our library.

Where’s Mom
The children matched the mother animal with the baby and placed them in the same pen.

Food From The Farm
The children matched the plant or animal with the food people eat with puzzles.

Animal Counting
The children rolled the die then placed that many animals in the farm field. The instructions also included which animal to count.

Sensory Bin
We made a sensory bin for the kids with beans, farm animals and measuring cups.

Pumpkin Plant
The children put the different stages of the pumpkin plant life cycle in order.

Farm Stickers
The children made their own farm scene with stickers.

Tractor Time
We made a tractor using two large boxes. The kids pretended to drive it!

Who’s In The Barn
The children played with the Peekaboo Learning Farm that can be found here.

Puzzles
The children played with numerous puzzles about farms that we have at the library.

Animal Gears
The children played with a gear toy.

Farm Building
The children built a farm using blocks from Melissa and Doug. These are no longer available.

Farm Lacing
The children worked on their hand eye coordination with lacing farm animal shapes.

Farm Play
The kids played with the farm animals and barn.

The kids had a lot of fun with all the different stations!
