Playing with STEM: STEM All Year 25

Hi Everyone! This program is called Playing with STEM. It is a STEM program for 2-5 year olds. It is primarily play, because at that age, I just want to make science, technology, engineering and math fun!

For the second year in a row, we celebrated some of our favorite stations from the year, and added a few new ones. There were stations all around the room that the kids visit with their caregivers. Each station had a sign to give some instructions and fun facts. Here are the stations:

Snow Play
The children played in the snow made of cotton balls and tissue snowflakes.

Bear Hibernation
The children could learn about hibernation by feeding our puppet bears fruit then taking a nap in their cave.

Drill Design
The children used a powered screwdriver to design pictures using this activity from Educational Insights. It can be found here.

Magnet Building
The children built with magnetiles and cube magnets.

Race to Recycle
Recycling is important! The children sorted materials into metal, paper and plastic.

Puddle Jumping
The children could jump from puddle to puddle and pretend to splash in the rain.

Planting Flower
The children planted flowers in a box. The flowers are made of paper with stick stems. The planting box had noodles covered with brown felt to look like dirt.

Farm Puzzles
The children solved some farm puzzles, floor puzzles and wooden puzzles.

Shells On The Beach
The children looked for shells in our pool with sand.

Reef Building
The children built a reef using Ocean Reef Building toy found here.

Apple Toss
The children tossed apples through the holes in our cardboard apple tree.

Pumpkin Counting
The children added the correct number of paper pumpkins to laminated counting pages.

Fossil Find
For this month’s sensory bin, the children found dinosaurs in sand but using paintbrushes. The dinosaurs were 3D printed cookie cutter stamps or other fossil replicas found on Thingiverse.

Gingerbread Build
We made gingerbread magnetiles by covering regular magnetiles with vinyl and cricut cut “icing”. The children built houses with them.

Tree Lights
The children placed light bulb stickers onto the large tree posters by matching the colors.

The kids had a lot of fun with all the different stations!
