Circus Storytime

Time to go to the circus! I had done this theme for the K-2 group under our Summer Reading theme of “Showtime at the Library”, so it was pretty easy to adapt it to storytime. There aren’t an abundance of appropriate books, but we only needed three!

Opening Song
Wiggle Song
Sign Language: Play, Ball
Literacy Activity: Letter C
See https://libraryfun.home.blog/literacy-activities/ for more information.

Book: Where’s Pup by Dayle Ann Dodds

Feltboard: 6 Circus Seals
Put up the seals and the tubs before you start.

6 circus seals ready for a trick
Which color ball will each one pick?
Let’s match them up one by one
Circus seals are so much fun!

Hold up a ball and name the color. Match it to the correct seal. The children might want to help!
After they are all matched, say the last part of the rhyme:

6 circus seals ready to rest
They have the color ball that they like the best.
We matched them up one by one
Circus seals are so much fun!

From Fun with Friends at Storytime

Book: Circus by Lois Ehlert

Song: Popcorn by Laura Doherty from Shining Like a Star. Use the parachute, first empty, the then with popcorn!

Book: Circus Opposites by Suse MacDonald

Action Song: Funny Clowns

Do the actions with the song
Funny clowns, funny clowns,
Jump around, jump around
Sometimes making faces
Sometimes running races
Funny clowns, funny clowns
Funny clowns, funny clowns
Spin around, spin around
Sometimes with a big nose,
Sometimes with big toes
Funny clowns, funny clowns

Closing Song

Craft: Carnival stickers on a clown tie!
We also had a rope to walk like a tightrope, balls to juggle and a clown dress up station with masks and collars.
