Fall Storytime

It’s fall again so we had to celebrate it in storytime. Some themes that come around every year get a little old, but this one has so much to learn about trees and animals, I always find it lots of fun!

Book: Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak

Feltboard: Autumn Leaves
The tree is placed on the feltboard with one red, brown, yellow, green and orange leaf attached to the branches. The rest of the leaves were given to the children. When a color leaf fell, the children would bring their matching leaf up and place in on the bottom of the tree.

All the little leaves hanging from a tree.
Looking as lovely as can be.
Whoosh went the wind and one leaf said,
“I’ll meet you on the ground. I’m the color red!”
(Move the red leaf to the bottom of the tree)

More little leaves hanging from a tree.
Looking as lovely as can be.
Whoosh went the wind and another fell down.
This little leaf was the color brown.
(Move the brown leaf to the bottom of the tree)

More little leaves hanging from a tree.
Looking as lovely as can be.
Whoosh went the wind. Oh my, it was cold!
Another leaf fell; it was the color gold.
(Move the gold (yellow) leaf to the bottom of the tree)

More little leaves hanging from a tree.
Looking as lovely as can be.
Whoosh went the wind. It was a storm!
Another leaf fell; it was the color orange.
(Move the orange leaf to the bottom of the tree)

A few little leaves hanging from a tree.
Looking as lovely as can be.
Whoosh went the wind and it started to sway.
But it was still green, so it had to stay!

Active Song:  Autumn Leaves
Hand out red and orange leaves to all the children.

The leaves of the trees turn orange and red,
Orange and red, orange and red.
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
All through the town.

The leaves of the trees come twirling down,
Twirling down, twirling down.
The leaves of the trees come twirling down
All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish;
Swish, swish, swish; swish, swish, swish.
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All through the town.

Craft: Leaf Rubbing
We collected leaves from trees outside. It is best to have fresh green leaves if possible so they don’t get smashed. The children put the leaves under a paper and rubbed the crayon over the top.
