Hi Everyone! This program is called Playing with STEM. It is a STEM program for 2-5 year olds. It is primarily play, because at that age, I just want to make science, technology, engineering and math fun!
In this program we learned about planets and pace. There were stations all around the room that the kids visit with their parents. Each station had a sign to give some instructions and a fun fact. Here are the planets stations:
New 2024: Rocket Coloring
The children colored paper rockets, then added a dropper to the back. They launched them with air by blowing through a straw.

New 2024: Robot Hand
The children used toy grabbers to pick up orange rocks (balled up paper) like a rover visiting Mars.

New 2024: Moon Base Builder
The families used Duplo LEGOs to build a moon base.

New 2024: Moon Craters
For this station the children dropped different meteors into flour covered with cocoa to see how real meteors effect the moon.

Moon Craters
The children used air rockets to try to land on a planet on our board.

What’s in the Universe
The children used a space themed building toy to make the “universe”. The builders are from Hearthsong, but are not longer available.

Space Sticker Picture
The children could use stickers to place the planets in the correct orbit using this sticker set from Oriental Trading.

Planet Orbits
The children used a small rotating toy to watch the planets go around the sun. This toy is no longer available.

Twinkling Stars
Children love stickers, so I placed a large piece of black paper on the wall. The children added stickers of stars, comets and planets on the paper any way they wished.

Planet Order
With a set of the 8 3D planets, the children could place them in order, then check their work on a answer sheet.

Planet Orbits
We always like to have a least one activity that has a lot of movement. We placed a yellow balloon in the center of a set of large concentric circle laid out on the floor with tape. The children could wear a vest of planet, then orbit (walk) around the sun. Many children really enjoyed this activity.

We had a great turnout for this program, and we are getting a great following!
